Council Members
Chairperson
Lisa Chambless- PYP Parent
Vice Chairperson
Jamie Perry- PYP 3rd Grade Boys Teacher
I graduated from East Tennessee State University with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and came to Atlanta three years ago to begin my career in education. After teaching in Gwinnett County for two years, I learned about IWIA and loved the founding principles that guide the school. I started teaching this year at IWIA as a third grade boys' instructor. I finished my Master's degree in Reading, Language, and Literacy (focus: ESOL) in December 2009 at Georgia State University. I firmly believe in the importance of extracurricular activities and developing well-rounded students, so I implemented an athletic program into the MYP this year at IWIA. My future goals are to obtain my PhD in leadership and eventually serve as an administrator.
Secretary
Erica Jong- PYP Parent
I am a proud mother of 2 PYP students that attend IWIA and we live in East Atlanta. I received my Masters in Social Work from Hunter College City University of New York and during my short career as a Social Worker, I worked predominantly with high school students in school-based mental health centers by providing clinical and support services. After the birth of my children and re-locating to Atlanta, I started my own business designing and manufacturing my own line of organic baby products. Although I no longer practice social work, child-advocacy and community service continue to play important roles in my life. Volunteering at the school allows me to help support all our students, staff, and families.
Gabrielle Philips- MYP Parent
I am a parent of three great students, 2nd, 4th, and 6th grades. I graduated from Morris Brown College right here in Atlanta with a degree in Business. My husband and I own a small publishing company. I come from a family of educators and was taught that education is the great equalizer. Anything can be achieved with a great education. I chose IWIA because of it's mission statement. It states everything we were looking for in a school.
Joyce Nance- MYP Parent
Jeffrey Holcomb- MYP Coordinator/8th Grade Teacher
I am an international administrator and educator with over 10 years of experience in the field of education. I have taught in schools ranging from public to international to charter, and in classrooms ranging from fully included special education classrooms through Advanced Placement and IB Diploma classrooms. I led International School Moshi (Tanzania, East Africa) to gain its MYP authorization as MYP Coordinator in addition to involvement in Outdoor Pursuits and as Senior Boys Basketball Coach. Currently, my role at IWIA involves supervising curriculum development and discipline as the MYP Coordinator and teaching 8th Grade iCHiLL (integrated Humanities and ELA).
